minds and machines. this is existential combat. to make order where nothing but the faint line of the possible wrinkled perception. the process is as follows — tracks like stabs of meat and protein put down with a midi controller or randomly devised by generative software and flung into ableton live. this is where the fun begins. switching in and out and out and in with soft synths until a netherworld forms like a radio transmission twenty kilometers below the surface in some fantastic and yet impossible cave. flourishings then added with various effects, oscillators, noise makers, static generators, and einstein’s stratavarious. mastered. packaged. archived. and sent with love.

“Alien Tongue” presents two live performances by Emerald Adrift. The first piece, “Hatchling,” was recorded during a live broadcast on the StillStream internet radio station on November 1, 2008. “Abandoned Amusement Park (Gone To Weeds)” was another live StillStream performance, broadcast on March 14, 2009.

A fragment from the full length album “Four States” was included in project Sommeil: A Concert For Sleep, presented on the night of 11th to 12th of April 2009 at the Antenna Gallery in New Orleans, an event organized by artist Tanner Menard. During this event to a public equipped with sleeping bags there has been offered a “soundtrack for sleep” created by international artists.

The music on album “Four States” is conceived as a background for sleep, relaxation and passive introspection. It attempts to enhance silence, exploring the essential meanings that silence has in various cultures, such as in Zen Buddhism or for the Jesuits. Silence is a symbol for the still, unchanging, perpetual and omnipresent element present in the world, the substrata of reality, the deepest nature of all things, the Existence that precedes Essence. According to Vedanta philosophy, all transient objects in the world are like clouds, but their true nature, their inner Self, their spirit is like the sky, unchanging, eternal and perfect.

The album follows the four elements, four states of consciousness and the four layers of silence as described in Mandukya Upanishad: Awakening, Dream, Deep Sleep and a Fourth hidden state. The first three elements represent the Beginning, the Middle and the End, Past, Present and Future, the forces of Creation, Conservation and Destruction. At the same time the fourth element is a substrata of the first three, the common space in which they occur, their true nature. As described in Maitrayana-Brahmaya Upanishad, the first three elements are unreal, while only the fourth is real.

DJ Radio Scotvoid is in Salem tonight to make noises with Buddah Machines (those are musical loop players), sampling gizmos, keyboards, noise makers, and other random equipment – including a Nintendo DS.
The concert of cacophony will also include audience participation; Scotvoid will ask listeners to talk into the sampler so he can use their voices in his sound montage. “This is a new and very abstract concept, ” Scotvoid tells us.

So, about 1 and 3/4 years ago, I finished a super long ambient track for my Zondagmorgen (remember this?!) project, entitled La Fin du Monde. My intentions, at the time, were to release it though IMP. That never happened, and it’s been sitting on my hard drive ever since. I pulled it out, on a whim, this morning and listened to it on the bus today. It’s actually better than I remember, so I thought I would send it your way to see if you would be interested in including it in as an upcoming JNN release.

And thus, happened.
